Making Fictions — Workshop

Making Fictions introduces methods of prototyping and storytelling in a playful, hands-on way. The workshop encourages and educates a process of thinking-through-making, offering a chance to jump quickly into large scale production and also to experiment with methods and techniques for fiction filmmaking.
Responding to a given story outline, the students work in groups to build detailed, 1:1 scale film sets out of simple materials, such as cardboard, before making their own individual short films. The sets are made rapidly yet ambitiously, creating immersive environments with high levels of detail. Upon completion, the sets are then used as narrative environments for acting out or animating different sequences on camera - hinting towards wider, imagined worlds. Through collaborative, ambitious making the students are able to accomplish impressive, immersive spaces and create rich, engaging moving imagery.

“Making Fictions” est un projet d’introduction aux méthodes de prototypage et de narrations. Le workshop, dont la pédagogie consiste à penser tout en créant, encourage et stimule le travail à échelle réelle tout en explorant les différentes techniques de réalisation cinématographique fictionnelle.
Les étudiants ont travaillé en groupe pour écrire leurs scénarios et réaliser ensuite, à l’aide de matériaux simples (tels que le carton), les décors de leurs courts-métrages. Ces décors, produits rapidement mais avec beaucoup de détails, ont pour but de générer un environment immersif. Ils sont ensuite le terrain de nouvelles histoires, permettant aux étudiants de jouer et de générer d’autres séquences d’animations – ouvrant une vision sur un monde imaginatif plus large.
Par des collaborations ambitieuses et des décors impressionnants, les étudiants peuvent produire de nouvelles images riches et immersives.
